DragonSword Awakening Heroes: All 19 and How Teams Work

There are 19 playable Heroes, and the number that matters about each one is not its damage — it is which Status Ailment it applies. Because Signal Skills chain off ailments, a Hero's value is defined by what it sets up for the rest of your team.

What is confirmed

Named story characters from the official synopsis are Lute (the protagonist), Johnny (a mercenary) and Castella (an Elf). Whether every story character is also playable is something we have not confirmed.

How to build a team

Three questions, in this order:

1. What ailment does my lead Hero apply? That is your setup.
2. Which Hero has a Signal that uses it? That is your payoff.
3. Can I keep the chain going? Switching Signals only help if the third Hero has somewhere to hand off to.

A team of three high-damage Heroes with unrelated ailments will underperform a team of moderate Heroes whose ailments and Signals line up. This is the single most common early mistake.

Why we are not publishing a tier list yet

Tier lists for a game two weeks old are mostly guesswork dressed up as analysis. Ranking Heroes requires knowing each one's ailment, which Signals consume it, and how that changes across content types — none of which we have verified.

We would rather publish this page thin and honest than publish a confident ranking we cannot defend.

Still to verify

All 19 Hero names, their individual Status Ailment types, skill lists, and recommended pairings are pending verification. Community documentation exists — including in-game interactive map work and character-specific guides — and we are working through it. Each Hero will get a page once its abilities are confirmed rather than inferred.
